Every stool is unique and individual, no set of legs are the same as the last and no top copied from another. I mainly produce one-offs but also work on limited collections using wood entirely from a single tree.
It starts with the wood which is locally sourced and native to the UK countryside, either coming from windblown trees or from conservation projects. I primarily use English Oak but I also use Walnut and Elm amongst other species.
The stool top is designed and shaped around the grain patterns to reflect the natural forms and strengths that grow into each piece of wood over decades or centuries.
All of my stools are 100% handcrafted using both traditional and modern techniques. I finish them with natural oils and beeswax to protect the wood and complete the stool with my hand carved signature on the underside.
My aim is make a stool of heirloom quality that will live a life of its own for centuries to come.
